  • Contract development and negotiation in the successful purchase of a $50 million electric power plant and development of agreements for sale of cogenerated electric power from a Delaware refinery to public power utilities in Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
  • Lead counsel for all technology licensing and much of the design, fabrication, and construction contracting for a $100 million dollar plant expansion in three refineries, both for efficiency improvements and also for improvements to meet requirements of the U.S. Clean Air Act.
  • Infringement and validity analysis of the Talbert Engineering patents asserted against various members of the petroleum industry regarding production and marketing of reformulated gasoline.
  • Infringement and validity analysis of Amoco patents pertinent to development of a resid oil supercritical solvent extraction process for a Louisiana refinery. Developed and negotiated the Amoco patent license.
  • Developed and negotiated outsourcing agreements for a major oil company’s core financial systems, including SAP installations of Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Inventory Control, and General Ledger.
  • For Dynamic Business Systems (“DBS”) in Alexandria, Virginia, a developer of financial management software for Fortune companies, successfully negotiated development agreements and software licenses for multi-million dollar software transactions.
  • Counsel for DBS in drafting and negotiating a contract with the Manville Trust for development of an extremely large software system for administration of asbestos-related personal injury claims.
  • Lead counsel in total recovery from theft trade secrets related to a database for administration of an offshore oil field in the Arabian Gulf.
  • Lead counsel for intellectual property due diligence in the development of a major petroleum industry downstream joint venture.
  • Lead counsel for a major oil company in the successful development of a lease agreement with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for land upon which to construct a 50,000 square foot aviation facility, hangers, work shops and office space, at the King Fahd International Airport in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.
  • Lead counsel in a successful arbitration under Islamic law of complex delay claims and extra work claims referred by a Dutch pipeline contractor in connection with construction of a gas pipeline 500 miles in length across the Arabian subcontinent.
  • Lead counsel in a $100 million project for design, procurement, fabrication, construction and installation of an offshore gas-oil separation facility.
  • Lead counsel in the successful assertion and negotiation of warranty claims against a Brazilian shipyard for design and fabrication defects in a $100 million jack-up barge.
  • Lead counsel in a $200 million project for design, procurement, fabrication, construction and installation of a plant for manufacturing sulfur prills at Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
  • Lead counsel in development of consortia agreements for a $300 million project for design, procurement, fabrication, construction and installation of a combustion gas electric power generation facility at Qurrayah, Saudi Arabia.

John is admitted in Texas, New Mexico, the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, and various federal courts. John holds degrees from University of Texas at Austin and the Texas Tech School of Law. John’s honors include a Texas Tech School of Law Scholarship, membership on the Texas Tech Law Review, and a clerkship with Judge Halbert O. Woodward, Chief Judge, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Texas, 1979-80.
