Tom Fortenberry

Tom Fortenberry is an associate with B&O concentrating on patent portfolio development. A registered patent lawyer, Tom has served in private practice since 2005. He received both his law degree and his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Mr. Fortenberry’s formal education provides him a background in electrical engineering and business administration. Before attending law school, he served as the chief operations officer for a creative design company. Mr. Fortenberry’s legal experience includes patent preparation, prosecution, and civil litigation. Relevant experience includes:

  • Prepared and prosecuted over a hundred patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office in the areas of multimodal software applications, web applications, massive parallel computing, operating systems, middleware, database systems, pervasive computing systems, memory management, computer bus structures, heat sinks, and many others.
  • Developed and implemented comprehensive patent strategies for complex, multimodal interactive web applications, in particular development of the voice-enabled web.
  • Implemented comprehensive patent strategies for massively parallel supercomputers, in particular for the fastest computer architecture in the world, with installations representing the fastest computer in the world and nine of the 25 fastest computers in the world.
